Welcome to second grade at Uniontown Elementary School. Your child is now a 2nd grader. This will be an exciting year that will bring lots of changes.
One of our goals is for students to take responsibility for their education. We expect them to complete their work to the best of their ability. You can help at home by encouraging them daily to come to school with good behavior and do their best on all assignments in the classroom.
We will learn a lot in second grade. We will read for comprehension as well as fluency (speed). By the end of 2nd grade, your child should be reading 90-100 words per minute. Allow your child to read at home so he/she can achieve this goal. We will also learn math facts without using fingers. Regrouping is an important math skill that your child should master in 2nd grade. In science, we will be doing lots of fun, hands-on activities.
We have confidence that this will be a great year for our class. If you ever need one of us feel free to call (628-6318) or come by the school between 1:20-2:00 p.m. Let's work together for the advancement of your child.
